The vans of Wales & West Utilities are putting Braunton firmly in their rear view mirrors after completing a project to upgrade the gas pipes in the Heanton Street area.
The road in the village centre was scheduled to be closed until the end of November while the essential work was carried out, plus there were four-way traffic lights on East Street, Chaloner’s Road, Caen Street and The Square through November.
Engineers have been working in Braunton since the end of September and now that it’s complete, Wales & West Utilities says the project will ensure gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses for decades to come.

Roxanne Whittaker managed the upgrade work for the company and said: “We would like to thank the community for bearing with us while we completed this essential work. In planning the project, we worked in partnership with Devon County Council, and traffic management was in place throughout.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
If at any time you smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 immediately. Trained engineers are available 24/7 to respond.
