Heavy flooding has hit parts of the Holsworthy area today (Monday, December 15) and flood alerts have been issued by the Environment Agency.

The A3072 at Anvil Corner near Holsworthy is particularly bad, with many motorists turning around – the flooded stretch is between there and the Hollacombe turn off.

The bridge at the entrance to Pyworthy is also well and truly flooded, with locals warning drivers to try and find alternative routes.

The Environment Agency issued a flood alert this morning for the Upper River Torridge, following heavy rainfall overnight.

It said: ‘Forecast levels may cause flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river from around 9am on Monday, December 15. The main areas of concern are Hatherleigh, Bradworthy, Clovelly and Bradford.

‘We expect the river to remain high throughout the day. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water’.

Flood alerts are also in place on Exmoor rivers and the Upper Tamar.
