New Dawlish road section completed ahead of schedule

A key section of new road infrastructure in Dawlish has been completed ahead of schedule, helping to reduce construction traffic passing the local schools.

Teignbridge District Council and Devon County Council, supported by Homes England, worked in partnership to deliver the link road, with the newly completed section delivered by Bloor Homes. 

Construction traffic for Taylor Wimpey's‘ Brook Vale’ and Bloor Homes' ‘Dawlish View’ developments will no longer use Elm Grove Road, but will access the developments from the A379 Sainsbury’s roundabout instead. General, non-construction traffic will not be able to use the road until a later date, once more homes have been completed. 

This change will benefit residents along Elm Grove Road and families, especially those with children attending Gatehouse Primary Academy and Dawlish Academy. Crucially, the early opening means traffic will be eased before the start of the new school term in September, improving safety and reducing disruption for pupils and parents.

The link road connects the housing developments, known as the Dawlish urban extension, directly to the A379 at Sainsbury’s roundabout, providing improved access to the new homes under construction. This milestone follows the completion of Sweet Violets Bridge, officially named in March.

The bridge and link road have been made possible through the investment secured by Teignbridge District Council of £4.9 million from government grants and £1.3 million from developers.
