Willow-Mae Calland from the South Devon School of Gymnastics achieved an incredible milestone last week by making her debut for England in a home nations tournament.
Not only was Willow a debutant, she also had the amazing honour of being the youngest gymnast in the entire event at the age of just 12, testament to her incredible talent, determination and maturity.
The Celedonia International Acrobatics and Gymnastics 2025 was held at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell, with Willow and her team-mates competing against squads from Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
England took bronze in the team medals and Willow finished fifth in the overall scores in all disciplines - floor, bars, beam, and vault.
Her score for floor qualified her for the finals in that discipline the following day. She finished sixth and without one error would have been close to grabbing bronze.
After such an incredible life-changing weekend, Willow was straight back in the gym training after school on Monday. Congratulations to Willow, her family and the whole team at the South Devon School of Gymnastics.
Probably inspired by Willow’s achievements, the boys also did the club proud in the Devon Wheatley Championships, the trio of Jackson, Josh, and Freddie working together to take the team gold in their category. They were cool and collected on the competition floor and displayed some great sportsmanship and teamwork.
Oscar competed in a higher county level for the first time, against gymnasts two years older than him, and put out lots of new skills. He rose to the occasion, with an overall placement and top three placements on apparatus.
