Paignton's Ladies B crew
Back on the water for a rowing summer
The Dart Gig Club Regatta held on the river Dart at Dartmouth attracted eleven local pilot gig clubs for fifteen events.
Racing was mostly over a 3,000-metre course in the mouth of the Dart, although the Ladies C, Men’s C, Mixed and Under 16 were over 2,000 metres and the Under 14 over 1,000 metres.
The event proved extremely useful as preparation for the World Pilot Gig Championships scheduled for May 2 - 4 on the Isles of Scilly.
Paignton’s contingent with their gig ‘Top Catch’ competed in three events with some gusto and achieving second place in the strongly contested Ladies B race.
Brixham with their gig ‘Florence’ were also strong competitors competing in thirteen of the events on offer. Their best results were at Ladies A, Under 16 and Under 14 taking third place in each of those events.
