Celebrating 20 years of the parkrun

The global phenomenon is thriving in Torbay

On Saturday morning, hundreds of enthusiastic runners joined together at Torbay Velopark, like they do every Saturday morning, to celebrate 20 years of the parkrun phenomenon.

The extraordinary global success of parkrun was founded by Paul Sinton-Hewitt, who organised the Bushy Park Time Trial in London, which then evolved into the parkrun.

Since then, more than 2,200 parkruns have been set up in 23 countries around the world. But parkrun was never just a run.

Paul’s vision was for parkrun to be a place for everyone, no matter who they are or where they’re from. An opportunity for people to be active together, outdoors, and take part however they like.

The Torbay Velopark parkrun takes place at 9am every Saturday morning on the course next to Torbay Leisure Centre in Clennon Valley. Runners of all ages and abilities come together for this free event, all made possible by the amazing contribution of volunteers.
