Fishing from the beach
Beach anglers have been out in force with the increase of fish, while the South Hams continues to produce some lovely fish.
Terrence Abbot and Tristan Rowe of Newton Baits both fished with long pulley rigs with Squid and Sandeel wraps and were rewarded with Small eyed Rays to 7lbs 3oz and Tristan managed a nice Bull Huss. Whiting were caught as a by-catch by both anglers.
Bass have also been caught along these beaches with Totnes lure angler tony White catching plenty on his favoured white Senko lures. Tom Jones fished as long session and found Bull huss feeding, along with a Couches bream and a lovely lobster.
Dan Patrick fished another session in one of our estuaries and found some nice plump winter flounders eager to take his baits. Newton Abbot’s Chris Wagstaff travelled to Minehead again in search of Rays and was rewarded with a new personal best Blonde Ray of 11lbs 8oz. Chris was using pulley pennel rigs using half beak and squid wraps. Vince Knight fished an undisclosed mark and found a beautiful Spotted Ray, whilst Tom Barron found bass feeding in one of our estuaries.
Some boats have managed to get out with Torbay angler Mike Adkins fishing the wreck for Pollack, with his reward being a Superb 18lbs 10oz specimen. Also amongst the Pollack was Phil Ingleson, who managed a few Bass.
I managed to get a trip out with Honiton SAC at Minehead, where a species competition was fished by eleven anglers. Nine species were caught and the winner was decided on a points Basis with Steve Butler the runaway winner with 230 points.
The fish of the month winner for November is Terry Hartnell with his unusual catch of a Blue Skate weighing 7lbs 9oz. A prize pack from our kind sponsor Sidewinder lures will be on its way to him shortly.
The competition is also kindly sponsored by Newbarn Angling Centre. Entries are now being taken for December and can be emailed to me m on johnsherlockfish@gmail.com or by Whatsapp or Messenger.
