Torbay Council considers plans for former motorhome showroom to become petrol station and convenience store

The new development would create 20 full and part-time jobs, but a nearby resident has lodged an objection citing concerns over noise, traffic and pollution.
The former home of a company selling luxury motorhomes in Paignton is set to become a petrol station and convenience store.
Plans have been submitted to Torbay Council for the site of the former Alan Kerr showroom and sales site off the ring road at White Rock.
The motorhomes business ceased operations in June.
The application comes from EG On The Move Ltd, and the company says it wants to redevelop the ‘fairly utilitarian’ site, giving it a ‘significant uplift’ in appearance. Tree planting is part of the proposals.
If permitted, the fuel pumps to the north of the building will have a flat roof canopy. The store design will match the character and appearance of the Devonshire Retail Park opposite.
The new development would create 20 full and part-time jobs.
An objection has been lodged by someone living nearby who says their home and garden would be overlooked, and there would be issues with noise, traffic and pollution.
The applicant says: “The development seeks to redevelop a brownfield site into a modern, fresh development which will serve as a boost to the local economy and will significantly enhance the site’s visual appeal.
“It will provide key amenity facilities to passing traffic and local people.”
In June the Alan Kerr dealership cleared out stock from both its Brixham Road and Yalberton Road sites. According to documents at Companies House, receivers were appointed in July.
