£300,000 gas pipe upgrade to bring road closures to Paignton

The £300,000 project will see more than 1,000 metres of gas pipes upgraded in the Goodrington Road area of Paignton, with road closures and lane restrictions planned over the coming months.
Wales & West Utilities is set to begin a £300,000 project to upgrade more than 1,000 metres of gas pipes in the Goodrington Road area of Paignton, with road closures and lane restrictions planned over the coming months.
The work will begin on October 18 and is expected to be completed by the end of March 2027.
Between October 19 and January 15, the work will focus on Kingsway Avenue, Kingsway Drive and Grange Road.
A road closure will also be in place on Goodrington road, between the junctions with Grange Road and Brixham Road, from December 7 to January 15.
Further traffic restrictions are planned for February and March.
From February 8 to February 26, a southbound lane closure will be in place on Brixham Road, from outside Eastcote to outside Four Winds.
From March 1 to March 12, a westbound lane will be closed on Long Road, at the junction with Brixham Road to outside the Premier Inn.
Brixham Road will also be subject to a northbound lane closure at the junction of Long Road during this time.
Diversion routes will be clearly marked, however, motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
The project forms part of a wider investment by Wales & West Utilities, which plans to spend more than £1.2 million upgrading gas pipes across the area over the next year.
The programme will see more than seven kilometres of gas pipes upgraded across the area, helping to improve the critical energy infrastructure in the area to benefit local customers.
Wales & West Utilities’ Natalie Raphael is managing the programme and said:
“We’re investing in our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve across the area.”
“We'll be keeping the local community updated on these works and working with the local authority, and other key partners, to keep disruption to a minimum.
“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and businesses can rely on every day.”
“While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it."
