A385 reopens after police car loses control during pursuit of stolen vehicle

The A385 Totnes Road has reopened after a police vehicle lost control while following a stolen car, bringing down power cables.
The A385 Totnes road has reopened following a collision involving a police car that lost control while following a stolen vehicle.
The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, November 5, on the A385 eastbound between the Berry Pomeroy turning and Glazegate Lane.
Power cables fell and the police officer sustained a minor injury due to the collision.
A road closure was put in place while National Grid attended to make the fallen power cables safe, causing congestion and slow-moving traffic in the area as motorists diverted away.
A Devon & Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “We were called at around 1.35am on Thursday 5 November following a report of a vehicle being stolen from outside a property in South View Park, Plympton.”
“A police vehicle located and followed the stolen vehicle before losing control on the A385 between Totnes and Paignton.”
“One officer sustained a minor injury as a result.”
“A road closure has been put in place.”
“No other vehicles were involved in the collision.”
“National Grid has attended the scene to make fallen power cables safe.”
The fallen power cables have since been removed and the latest traffic update confirms that traffic has returned to normal.
Police enquiries to locate the stolen vehicle are ongoing.
