Schools from across South Devon came together for the annual Bradfords Primary School Community Cup, held at Paignton Academy.

The celebration of grassroots football was delivered by Saints Southwest, with Year Five and Six players from 16 primary schools competing across cup and plate competitions.

Organisers praised the high standard of play, excellent sportsmanship and strong support from school staff throughout the day. After a competitive series of group stages and playoffs, Sherwell Valley Primary School were crowned cup winners, while Warberry CofE Academy lifted the plate.

The event, now firmly established as a highlight in the local school sports calendar, is designed to give children the opportunity to represent their schools in a positive, well-organised, and inclusive environment.

Mark Titchard, Director of Saints Southwest, said: “This tournament is a great example of why we do what we do at Saints Southwest. It’s about creating meaningful opportunities for children to play, compete, and enjoy sport in the right way.

“Seeing so many schools come together, with pupils giving everything for their teams and supporting each other, is exactly what grassroots sport should look like.”

Saints Southwest programme coordinator Kai Champion, who helped deliver the event on the day, praised both the players and the schools:

“The attitude and effort from every team was outstanding,” he said. “Whether schools were playing in the cup or plate, the commitment and sportsmanship were first class. Events like this give children a chance to shine, learn, and be proud of representing their school.”

The tournament was made possible thanks to the continued sponsorship of Bradfords, whose support has helped enhance the overall experience for pupils and schools alike.
