Muddy win for Brixham RFC
The conditions were more suited to monster trucks than rugby but Brixham RFC still had enough to rattle up an impressive 58-25 triumph at Chew Valley in the Regional 1 Tribute SW Division.
The Fishermen grabbed the lead with a Jason Capaldi try, Chew replied with a penalty, but Joel Ashworth swiftly crossed again for a score converted by Mitch Pinkus and Brixham were 14-3 ahead.
Kai Kidd extended the advantage before a couple of yellow cards opened the door for the hosts to reduce the arrears to 15-21. A brace of Brixham penalties completed the first half.
After the break, lovely play from Jimmy Vidir created space for Kidd to notch his second try and Mat Crosscombe also dotted down, sandwiching a score from Chew. Another pair of yellows reduced Brixham to 13 men again but the pace of Ashworth and a second from Crosscombe completed an excellent performance.
Brixham are now third in the table, chasing Devonport Services and Topsham, with mid-table Launceston the visitors to Astley Park on Saturday.
All fixtures fell foul of weather for Torquay Rugby Club, so it was all about enjoying the Six Nations in the clubhouse.
