Torquay United are flying high at the top of their division after a composed 4-0 victory over Poole Town at Coach Road.

The Gulls were originally scheduled to play Pucklechurch in the cup on Sunday but when that game was cancelled, manager Ryan Perks moved swiftly to bring forward the league fixture with Poole.

The decision was quickly vindicated, Beth Everson’s whipping over a cross that caused mayhem in the visiting defence and Matilda Franchi was on hand to break the deadlock.

The second goal cushion came from a Roxy Thomas corner, headed home by Mollie Taylor, and United were in cruise control when Connie Pengelly made it 3-0 after the break, calmly lobbing the Poole ‘keeper with an excellent finish.

The gloss of a fourth goal came via the impressive Taylor, volleying home a Lucy Palmer free-kick, and United are back on the wagon this weekend with a trip to Sherborne Town.
