Cup week brought high drama, tight finishes, and standout performances across the South Devon and Torbay Table Tennis League, with only three Division Three fixtures interrupting an otherwise cup-focused schedule.

Academy 6 Produce Biggest Cup Win

In the Fourth Division Doubles Cup, Torbay Academy 6 — represented by Phil Jewell, Kris Adamczak and Marco Pilloni — claimed the most emphatic victory of the round. Making excellent use of their generous handicap, they powered past NA Owls 28–8.

The only other one-sided contest saw Teignmouth Aces ease to a 26–10 win over Brixham Sharks. David Davies, Steve Cooper and Andy Clitheroe dominated throughout, preventing the Sharks from registering a single set.

Thrillers Decided in Final Sets

All remaining doubles ties went down to the wire.

Torbay Academy 2 edged out clubmates Torbay Academy 7 in a 19–15 nail-biter. NA Harriers stayed narrowly ahead of Teignmouth Delinquents throughout their clash, but only secured breathing room in the final set, eventually winning 21–15 thanks to Albie Andrews, Lee Raymond and Mike Dummett.

In an all-Newton Abbot showdown, NA Kestrels squeezed past NA Merlins 20–16. The Kestrels’ five-man squad faced a demanding schedule, playing three matches in just two days, with Rob Williams, Richard Hathaway and David Doxsey involved in the doubles tie.

Kestrels Continue Winning Streak in Singles

The only singles cup match of the week featured a reshuffled NA Kestrels lineup — Fred Wakefield, Jackie Whitehorn and David Doxsey — who overcame Brixham Seals 21–15.

Completing a successful week, the Kestrels also claimed a vital 7–3 league victory over their closest Division Three rivals. Hathaway delivered a superb maximum to help secure the result.

Division Three Round-Up

Torre Spartans edged Torbay Academy 5 by a 6–4 margin, with Robert Austen unbeaten on the night. NA Kites matched the scoreline in their 6–4 victory over Torbay Academy 4, despite a brilliant maximum from the Academy’s Aaron Southgate.
