Paignton Ladies
While many male teams took advantage of an autumn break in the regional rugby schedule, the women’s game was full steam ahead on the weekend.
Paignton Ladies made the long trip to bottom club Helston in the Women’s NC 2 South West Division and delivered a ruthless display in winning 52-5. Ellie Dyke and Lulu Sinar both scored hat-tricks for the Cherries, with Jordan Crooke and Charlotte Massey also crossing the whitewash.
Paignton sit fourth in the table after four rounds of fixtures, just three points behind joint leaders Exeter Saracens and Bideford Ladies. Next on the list is a visit from Topsham on Sunday.
Brixham Sirens welcomed Teignmouth Ladies to Astley Park and produced a solid all-round display to win 17-5, a first win of the campaign for Brixham in the Women’s NC 3 South West Division. The Sirens travel to Withycombe Ladies on November 16.
Paignton Men were in cup action at home to Barnstaple but the North Devon visitors were in rampant form, running out 40-10 winners to end the Cherries’ run in the Devon Intermediate Cup.
Brixham Crusaders had a better day in the 2nd XV Devon Cup, turning on the style to defeat Tiverton 2nds 52-15, booking a place in the semi-finals against either Sidmouth or Devonport Services.
Brixham 1st XV return to Astley Park for the visit of Marlborough this weekend and the Fishermen will be looking for some consistency in their rollercoaster season. Torquay Athletic are on the road to Penryn and the Tics will be hoping for maximum points against the bottom club in their division.
