When Dylan Morgan arrived at Torquay United from Yeovil Town last December, Gulls’ boss Paul Wotton hoped to unwrap a Christmas present full of creative talent.
Sadly for Morgan and his new manager, injury soon intervened and the 22 year-old was only able to make ten appearances in the famous Yellow shirt.
Fast forward to the summer of 2025, and Morgan has been one of the stand-out performers in United’s pre-season campaign, scoring three goals and his astute pass laid on the opener for Cody Cooke in Saturday’s friendly win at Weymouth.
Now for Morgan and his team-mates, it is all about the league opener at home to Enfield.
“It was a bit slow in the first half [at Weymouth] but I’m glad we came out with a reaction and put the first half right,” said Morgan.
“We work on getting in the pocket and turning to influence the play. I’m happy I was able to do that for Cody to finish it off.
“I’m just buzzing to be back and hopefully can help the boys and maybe show what they missed last year. I want to give back to the staff as well because, when I came in and got injured so early, everyone looked after me so well.
“I really like this club, the people are really good and I want to give something back.
“Everyone now wants to get back to Plainmoor and get the league started, and hopefully, all goes well.”
Leading that march for the Gulls will ne new skipper Matt Worthington, who, like Morgan, lists Yeovil on his CV, although his last stint was with Oldham Athletic in the National League Premier.
“He’s been captain at his other clubs, and he’s a natural leader,” Wotton told the club website.
“He sets standards in training, and I saw it as a natural choice. We have lots of candidates this year, we’ve got a lot more leaders in the squad, but ‘Worthy’ will be wearing the armband.”
In Matt’s absence, the armband will once again be passed to Sam Dreyer, after the defender fulfilled the same role last season.
“He’s maturing all the time, and he was vice-captain last year,” confirmed Wotton.
“He’s come back and he’s been great in pre-season. He’s maturing and he deserves it.”
