Strengthening his midfield department was always a priority for Torquay United manager Paul Wotton this summer and the arrival of Sonny Blu Lo-Everton could be a crucial cog in that quest.

The former Yeovil man was introduced to the Yellow Army in Saturday’s 3-0 pre-season with at Buckland Athletic and he provided an early glimpse of his tidy work in the engine room.

Added to the likes of Nashe Sundire and Callum Dolan, Wotton will clearly feel he has added muscle and craft to such an important area of the pitch.

“It’s no secret that I wanted to revamp the midfield from last season,” said Wotton. “So, we’ve added Callum Dolan and ‘Nashe’ Sundire. Between them they’ve got that little bit of devil, a bit of edge to them. Sonny’s got that as well.

“Sonny’s also a ball-playing midfielder and technically very, very good. He’s brave and he’ll get on the ball and make us tick over. It’s another option for us in midfield which we need.

“He’s someone that I tried getting on loan a couple of times last season from Yeovil, but for whatever reason, it didn’t quite work out, so I’m really pleased to add him on a permanent deal this summer.”
