The latest recruit in the summer spree at Torquay United is a familiar face with an impressive pedigree.
Callum Dolan spent time on loan with the Gulls from Fleetwood Town, endearing himself to the Yellow Army with some fine performances during his short stint in 2023, and his return to the club is another statement of intent from United boss Paul Wotton.
Dolan played in the youth systems at Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers, later earning his senior stripes with the likes of Altrincham, Radcliffe, Matlock Town and Warrington. He signed for Fleetwood in 2023 and, as well as his time with United, he enjoyed a loan spell at Oldham Athletic.
“It’s good to be back at a massive football club with a lot of clear ambition,” said Dolan. “I want to get a promotion on my CV and that’s going to be my main focus.
“I’ve always kept an eye on the club, always wanted the club to do well since being here [the first time]. The fans are special, I could see that from my first time here.
“I play in midfield and like to think I can do a bit of everything. If we need a goal, I like to think I can do that, or get an assist, and also put in some big tackles when needed. I like to entertain but to be efficient when entertaining.
“I’ve been with clubs from eight out of the top ten divisions in the country but I have suffered from an injury over the last couple of years, which has meant not playing as much as I’d like.
“I now feel 100% ready to go and just really glad that Torquay get me on the back end of that. This is the season I’m looking to do something special and to show everyone that I can be one of the best players in this league.
“There are some players in the squad that I’ve played against in the National League or in the league above, so the foundations are there to have a great squad. I’m going to try and add to that and hopefully be that key to get us over the line.
“To win promotion, it has to be a special environment around the club.
“No one person or member of staff is the most important, we all have to be working together. I know that I will give everything and I’m sure the lads will all do that.
“We have a manager in Paul with a serious mentality and I will do anything for my team-mates because we all have to be pushing in the same direction to get this club promoted.”
