Torbay gymnast Abi Martin retains place among the elite
Torbay's Abi Martin has retained her place in the British Gymnastics squad.
The South Devon School of Gymnasts teenager did the Bay proud when she competed in last year's Olympics.
She has been sidelined through injury in recent months but it has been confirmed she has kept her place in the Team GB squad.
The club says: "After competing for team GB at the Olympics last year, this national squad place is very much deserved. Abi continues to be an inspiration to all the younger gymnasts at the club."
Mum Ellie added: "We are, as ever, very proud of Abi and all she has achieved including working hard coming back from injury."
Meanwhile, four South Devon School of Gymnastics members travelled to Wiltshire to compete in the South West Grades and returned home with some great results.
The club said: "All four girls competed with style and confidence and achieved some fantastic results."
Abigail Yates passed Performance 4, finishing 4th Overall and has qualified, as part of the South West team, to National finals.
Zi Wei Wang (QiaoQiao) passed Performance 2 with again qualifying to National finals as part of the South West team and was crowned Overall winner and South West champion.
Emily Bowden also passed Performance 2 finishing 2nd Overall and making the South West team heading to National finals.
For Maddie Maddock this was a warm-up competition. She competed well and put out lots of new skills. The event was a great stepping stone on the way to her national grading in May.
Results - Abi (All Around, 3rd vault and floor); QiaoQiao (1st All Around, 1st Range and Conditioning, 2nd bars and beam, 2nd floor); Emily 2nd All Around, 1st floor, 2nd Range and Conditioning)
The club said: "All four gymnasts head to Stoke-on-Trent, a fabulous achievement to have all four girls competing at the British National finals in May."
