Great weekend for Torbay Tri Club
Races in Bideford, Seaton and Wales
The Bideford Half Marathon, one of the most popular regional races took place this weekend up in North Devon, and it attracted a lot of interest from Torbay Triathlon Club members, who all perform well with many personal best times.
Leading the club members home was Jason Hurford in 1.15.28 (19th), followed by Ian Tyson 1.17.13 (28th), Ben Gerrish 1.23.43 (78th), Jon Parkinson 1.24.35 (83rd), Tom Le Gallez 1.25.21 (92nd), Charles Higginson 1.26.55 (106th), Paul Whitehead 1.27.12 (109th), Mark Colombini 1.28.34 (128th) PB, Gary Burman 1.30.59 (155th) PB, Tom Hutton 1.32.57 (189th), Lewis Cholerton 1.34.07 (199th), Debbie Burman 1.34.26 (203rd), Kate Maslin 1.34.29 (204th), Matt Giles 1.36.27 (230) PB, Simon Johnson 1.39.03 (265), Glynn Hughes 1.43.01 (332nd), Chris Martin 1.43.40 (344th) PB, Ian Dabbs 1.45.03 (366th) and Linda Dabbs 1.50.50 (428).
Jon Pressling headed across the Welsh border to continue his marathon training at the Cardiff 20/10 race. A two-lap course along the pathways of Bute Park, the event served as a popular race for those training for a spring marathon. The cool and bright weather made for perfect conditions, as Jon crossed the line in 2.13.08 and a top ten finish.
Another popular event that serves well for the upcoming the spring marathons, the Granite Way 20/10, took place near Okehampton.
Two club members took part with impressive times. Michael Jenkins took on the 20 and finished in 23rd in a time of 2.37.01 out of 129 runners. Kerry Kilgallon Couch battled the 10-miler, finishing in 1.30.31, the 3rd Vet 40 out of 232 runners
Meanwhile in Seaton, the super popular Grizzly event, organized by Axe Valley Runners, saw club runner Jerry Hocking take on the very tough Cub 9ish-mile run, which includes beaches, cliffs, trails, track and a water crossing! Jerry had a good day, finishing in 1.21.37 (17th) out of 647,
After his warm-up at the tough Gran Canaria half, Graham Reynolds also decided to take on the mighty Grizzly, finishing in 4.16.16 (712th) out of 1347.
On Wednesday, Devon and Cornwall Police took part in the Police National XC champs, which was held in Gwrych Castle, North Wales. Club member Linda Dabbs had an impressive day, the ladies’ race was just under 8k and on a tough hilly course Linda ran 42:42 to take 1st in her age group with only six seconds to spare.
