Commanding victory for Chiefs in the Premiership Cup

League struggles were cast aside for the weekend, as Exeter Chiefs swept to a comfortable 54-3 win over Hartpury in the Premiership Cup.

The visitors notched an early penalty but failed to again trouble the scorers, with Exeter in complete control at Sandy Park.

A powerful home scrum provided the platform for an opening try, number eight Greg Fisilau dotting down for a score converted by Josh Hodge. Exeter extended their lead when new recruit Tamati Tua raced toward the line and had the awareness to feed Hodge from the floor, and the full-back danced past defenders for another converted try.

Fisilau added a third try just a minute later and the half-time lead became 26-3 when hooker Dan Frost found space to dive over in the corner.

The power of Fisilau was rewarded with his hat-trick score early in the second period, battering his way through the Hartpury tackles after a clever pass from Richard Capstick. Hodge again slotted the extra points.

The Chiefs were enjoying their afternoon, turning up the style with a fabulous team move for the next score. Tommy Wyatt slipped a Hollywood pass to the supporting Will Rigg, who timed his pass to Hodge for a simple finish.

Rigg joined the scorers when his clever chip caught out the Hartpury defence and he collected the ball to notch his third try in successive weeks. The dominant victory was given one final seal of approval from Harvey Skinner, touching down after another incisive break from the impressive Wyatt.

Exeter Chiefs duo Henry Slade and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso started for England in a chaotic autumn international against Australia, eventually going home disappointed after a 37-42 defeat at Twickenham, with new Wallabies’ star Joseph Aukuso-Suaalii stealing the limelight with a dazzling display.
