Latest from the South Devon Table Tennis League

Just the one first division fixture this week saw NA Buzzards defeat NA Owls 9-1 to head the table after week three. Kevin Nicholls and Herbie Sage were unbeaten for the Buzzards, with Jim McIvor preventing the whitewash to collect the Owls’ point.

The top clash in the second division was at Halwell B, who entertained the Grove Guerrillas. The Guerrillas responding well to a disappointing first match overcame Halwell 7-3, both Colin Butterworth and Andrew Gilhespy with maximums for the Guerrillas.

NA Raptors started their campaign late, but very well, as they defeated Torbay Academy 2, 7-3. Man of the match, Paul Hine with an excellent maximum leading the way for the Raptors.

In the third division, Fred Wakefield and Andy Millman were undefeated as NA Kestrels beat clubmates NA Harriers 8-2. A Peter Moretta maximum was not quite enough for victory for his Torbay Academy 3 team, as they shared the points with NA Kites 5-5.

Grove Tigers continued their fine start to their fourth division campaign with an excellent 8-2 victory over NA Ospreys, however they had to work hard for it, winning all six of the sets that went to a fifth deciding game.

Jeff Cornish, the pick of the Tigers, was unbeaten on the night. Torre Spartans, also going well, were too good for NA Vultures, Lewis Lavery, Robert Excell and Dylan Sadler rarely in trouble as they whitewashed the inexperienced Vultures. Dawlish Delinquents and NA Merlins shared the points, Lee Raymond with a maximum for the Merlins.
