The boys from Buckland
Buckland bag a fine win in Brislington
Buckland Athletic are just four points behind leaders Brixham in the Western League and the Newton Abbot outfit have two games in hand on the Fishermen.
Facing a tricky trip to Brislington, Reece Shanley provided the ideal start for Buckland, smashing a free-kick into the top corner on just five minutes, and the positive momentum continued with a second from Owen Haslam on 14 minutes.
Full-back Shanley was again involved, crossing from the right for Haslam to force a decent initial save from the home custodian before despatching the rebound.
Buckland remained in control of the match on a sunny afternoon and when Ryan Bush was felled in the box on 56 minutes, the powerful forward stepped up to convert from the spot. Brislington managed a consolation but three solid points for Buckland, who host Millbrook in the FA Vase on Saturday.
Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police took on an epic trip to Wendron United in the Peninsula League Cup, and another memorable afternoon for Stoke in the furthest corner of Cornwall.
Wendron are riding high in the West division but Stoke arrived on a five-match unbeaten run and continued that form with the opening goal on three minutes, a free-kick from Morgan Harford sailing into the net.
Stoke doubled their lead early in the second period, Sam Bishop finishing neatly after excellent work from Ben Aldous. Wendron then laid siege on the visiting goal, making the last few minutes nervy when they pulled one back but Stoke held on to book another long trip to Penzance in the next round.
