Torquay Golf Club Emerton Court winners
England Seniors Men's County Champs being held in Torquay
There is a national takeover planned at Torquay Golf Club from October 8 – 10, when some of the finest senior men’s amateur golfers will descend on the picturesque Petitor course.
The English Senior Men's County Finals is contested between four counties, who have qualified from each of the Regional Groups (North, Midlands, South East and South West).
Over the course of three days, the counties will play a round robin format containing three foursomes matches in the morning and six singles matches in the afternoon.
“The players arrive on the Monday for a practise round and then competition runs from Tuesday to Thursday,” said a club spokesman. “Cornwall have won through to represent the South-West and I believe they are competing against Lincolnshire, Lancashire and a combined team from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
“We are expecting 60 golfers on the course, playing a variety of formats, so a bit like the Ryder Cup. It should be an incredibly exciting few days of golf in Torquay and spectators are welcome to attend.
“For Torquay Golf Club, it is a great honour to be chosen as hosts for such a prestigious event.”
One thing is for certain, the golfing guests from around the country will be given a warm welcome on the English Riviera and they will enjoy the spectacular views offered by the Petitor Peninsula.
Congratulations are also in order for the Torquay GC Seniors, who defeated Warren Golf Club 4-1 in the final to secure the Emerton Court Trophy.
