Championship Open Under 14 coxed four of Isla Canning, Sophie Evans, Richard Cudmore (cox), William Jackson-Heritage and Ollie Payne
Torquay and Paignton perform well at Royal Regatta
The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta attracted 173 entries from around the region and along the south coast, necessitating 44 events for the final regatta of the West of England Amateur Rowing Association’s ten regatta Championship series.
Racing was held over a 1000-metre course on the river Dart between the Higher and Lower ferries. On a bright sunny day, conditions were perfect with flat calm water.
Both Torquay and Paignton clubs were evident despite the stiff opposition. Torquay actually achieved some success in the Championship events.
The Championship Open Under 14 coxed four of Isla Canning, Ollie Payne, William Jackson-Heritage, Sophie Evans and cox, Richard Cudmore, won their race in style. Will Jackson-Heritage also took second place in the Championship Open Under 14 single sculls.
Paignton boated two crews in the Mixed Senior C coxed fours taking second and third and were also second in the Mixed Novice coxed quadruple sculls.
The next regatta for the West of England ARA clubs is the South Coast Rowing
Championships at Netley, Southampton, on September 14.
