Sophie Evans and Will Jackson-Heritage who won the Mixed Under 14 double sculls at their home regatta
Top results for Torquay and Paignton Rowing Clubs
Torbay Royal Regatta attracted 91 entries from around the region necessitating 25 events for the eighth regatta in the West of England Amateur Rowing Association’s ten regatta Championship series.
Racing was held over a 1000-metre course in Torbay, finishing just short of Torquay Harbour. On an overcast day, conditions on the Bay were perfect with flat calm water.
The home club, Torquay, performed well with some good results. In the Championship events, Will Jackson-Heritage was second in the Open Under 14 single sculls; the Women’s Novice coxed four were third; and Sophie Evans was second in the Women’s Under 14 single sculls.
In the non-championship events Torquay’s Novice Women’s coxed quadruple sculls crew won their race; the crew in the Women’s Under 14 double sculls were second; and Sophie Evans and Will Jackson-Heritage won the Mixed Under 14 double sculls.
Paignton also produced some fine results with Josh Bradley taking third place in the Championship Open Under 16 single sculls. In the non-championship events the Women’s Novice coxed quadruple sculls crew were second; the Mixed Senior C coxed four were third; and the Open Novice double sculls crew were also third.
With Plymouth Regatta cancelled, the final regatta in the Championship series is the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta on Thursday, August 29.
