United cruise to victory in final pre-season friendly
Torquay United completed their pre-season schedule with a controlled 3-0 victory at Tiverton Town from the Southern League.
After the blockbuster home ties against Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City, the Gulls settled into their new task with a cracking opening goal, Dan Hayfield lashing a wonderful free-kick into the top corner from 25 yards.
The goal proved a catalyst for United to exert complete control over their hosts and the second goal, eight minutes before half-time, was richly deserved. From another set-piece, Ed Palmer recycled the ball back into the danger area and Jadyn Crosbie headed home from close range.
United completed their scoring early in the second period, Brad Ash curling another lovely finish into the corner of the net, and the Gulls continued to pepper a beleaguered Tivvy defence.
Ben Seymour forced a top save from the home custodian and Omar Mussa curled a free-kick narrowly over. No more goals but a terrific final warm-up before the opening league game at home to Enfield on Saturday.
United: 13 Matt Wonnacott, 3 Jay Foulston, 5 Sam Dreyer (23 Ollie Tomlinson HT), 7 Lirak Hasani (10 Omar Mussa HT), 8 Roddy Collins (c), 14 Matt Carson, 15 Jadyn Crosbie (9 Ben Seymour 59), 16 Ed Palmer (4 Jordan Dyer 59), 17 Finn Tonks (24 Jacob Wellington 79), 19 Cody Cooke (11 Brad Ash HT), 20 Dan Hayfield (6 Austen Booth 59).
