Western League season starts on Saturday
The new football season, incredibly, has arrived, and local Western League clubs Brixham and Buckland Athletic kick-off on Saturday afternoon with hopes high.
Both the Fishermen and the Bucks finished just outside the play-offs last season, and despite numerous changes in personnel, the aim will be to take that extra step toward Southern League football.
Brixham open with a trip to Saltash United on Saturday and will fancy their chances against a side that finished 19 points below them in the 2024-25 campaign. This is swiftly followed by a trip to Torpoint Athletic on Tuesday, July 30 and then the Fishermen face Saltash again, in the FA Cup, on August 3.
Brixham followed up a comfortable 3-1 pre-season victory at Sidmouth Town with an entertaining 4-3 loss at Elburton Villa and completed their preparations with a trip to Crediton United on Tuesday.
Buckland kick-off the new campaign at home to Welton Rovers, a team they overpowered 5-1 at Homers Heath last season. The Bucks are now at home in the FA Cup on August 3, with their fixture against Wellington reversed to South Devon.
A big campaign awaits both clubs and we wish them the very best.
