Excellent times for Torbay Triathletes
The River Exe and Exeter Quay was the setting for lots of speedy midweek 10k times, with double celebrations for Jon Parkinson 37.40 and Cathy Parkinson 45.47 from Torbay Tri Club, who took top age group honours, while Paul Whitehead secured a fantastic PB time of 38.50. Fast times were run throughout the team, as Dave Brown continued his injury comeback in 37.45 and was joined by Samara Taylor in 50.22 and Laraine Gibbins in 56.19
On the hottest day of the year, the run action continued as Friday night's Chudleigh Road Race attracted a tri team of club members, keen to test themselves on the challenging hilly course. Running through the town and along the lanes around Chudleigh, Ian Dabbs was first home for the club in 44.24, followed by Peter Hayward in 46.51, who was just seconds ahead of Linda Dabbs in 46.55, who also win her age group.
Mile-for-mile, one of the toughest races on the running calendar, the popular Haytor Heller took place for the 38th year. Starting below Haytor Rock and following a single off-road route over rugged open moorland, the demanding course that also takes in Hound Tor and even includes a stream crossing.
Nick Wright put in a great time to race home in 47.59 while Matt Giles made his club debut in 1.00.05, Chris Martin finished in 1.05.48 and Brenda Finney completed the team in 1.29.25.
Peter Hayward produced a rather tidy performance at the British Aquathlon Championship in Barry Island. Starting with a 750m sea swim, Peter swapped the wetsuit for his running shoes to take on a 5k multi-surface run that saw him secure 4th place in his age group and finish just off the podium.
