Churston golfers hunting down a South Devon title

A superb draw at Dainton Park over the weekend sets Churston Golf Club for a title showdown with Stover in the South Devon League.

The result means Churston are second behind Stover and could overtake the leaders when they play host on the Churston course. The B Team also secured a powerful 5.5 – 1.5 victory over Dainton to remain top of their division.

Churston made a powerful start at Dainton, Ted Smither and Marc Shipton halving their match before a trio of victories for Richard Anthony Malone and Thomas Shwenn (2&1), Kieran Dart and Jordan Williams (4&3) and Callum Wills and James Dobbin (2&1).

Dainton fought back to win the final three matches out on the course, with Colin Masters and Martin Gill going down to a 3&1 loss, while there were 4&3 defeats for Matt Curnoe and Lester Barnes, and Simon Knapman and Jack Dart.

There was better news for Dart in the club comps, as he won the Gold Medal with a superb score of 72 and 69 in two rounds played in very tricky conditions. Troy Wheeler won the Denison Cup with an equally impressive -2 nett score, as the wind howled through Churston.
