Results from a great day on the water

The Port of Bideford Regatta attracted 129 entries for the third regatta in the West of England Amateur Rowing Association’s ten regatta Championship series.

Held on the river Torridge over a 1,000-metre course between the old and new bridges the entries necessitated 36 events.
Conditions on the tidal course were perfect on a cloudy but still day. Both Torquay and Paignton competed albeit with small squads of rowers.

Torquay’s Isla Canning, Ollie Payne, Will Jackson-Heritage, Sophie Evans and cox, Richard Cudmore, took third place in the Open Under 14 coxed quadruple sculls; Sophie Evans was second in the Ladies Under 14 single sculls; Will Jackson-Heritage was third in the Open Under 14 single sculls; and Vensan Crushcov, in his first single sculls race, was second in the Open Under 18 single sculls.

Paignton combined with Bideford Blues to form a crew in the Open eights finishing in second place; and Nick Brown, Josh Bradley, Shelly Atkins and Steph Kelsall were second in the Mixed Senior C coxed fours.

Next regatta in the Championship series is the City of Exeter Regatta on July 13.
