Anthony Raine
Torbay AAC member beats his local nemesis
Torbay AAC were all about the big challenges this weekend. Anthony Raine completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Fell Race, which had called to him from a very young age.
The Three Peaks Race is an annual event in which competitors race to climb each of the Yorkshire three peaks - Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough, and Whernside - and is one of the oldest, most famous fell races in Britain.
Last year, he narrowly missed the final cut-off by just one minute, and he felt the bite of disappointment as he saw other competitors rest and refuel at the aid station while being made to retire from the event.
On Saturday, it was a very different story with Anthony making both cut-off checkpoints by a comfortable margin, a testament to never giving up. The result showing the true grit of a very proud Yorkshireman.
Gemma Radcliffe completed stage two of the Saints and Smugglers 100 Mile challenge. The Smugglers Way is a 37-mile self-navigation trail race from Boscastle across Bodmin Moor finishing in Looe.
This is the third time Gemma has taken part in this event, improving her times each year. This year she knocked off 1 hour 50 minutes from her 2023 time and came in at 9:19:08.
On Sunday, Katie Harvie and Pete Henderson donned the yellow vests to take on Britain’s Ocean City Plymouth Half Marathon. A record 9,000 runners were there for 5k, 10k and half marathon distances. Katie completed the course in 01:53:46 with Pete finishing in 02:12:53.
