Juniors at Brixham Gig Rowing Club
Junior taster day at Brixham Gig Rowing Club
Brixham Gig Rowing Club invited 10 new juniors to sample this special sport with a taster day out on the water.
The first group of six was split into two gigs with three experienced juniors in the boat with them for added support.
“The turnout of our juniors was outstanding as usual and they all do themselves and the club credit,” said Gordon Petrie from the Brixham Gig Club. “We had Amy Plowman and Kisten Pullen (Captain and Chairwoman) coxing, as they are two of our most experienced coxes and Amy is one of the regular cox/coaches for the juniors. The second group was four and they were also split into two gigs with four experiences juniors with them.
“Each session was 20-30 minutes and given they hadn’t rowed before they all did very well and came back smiling. There was an added bonus that two ladies who had brought juniors spoke to me about how they could possibly join, which was brilliant.
“The club laid on soft drinks and cakes/biscuits, as well as a delicious BBQ, so the juniors and parents experienced the full flavour of what we offer to members at Brixham Gig Rowing Club.”
