County Cups in local football

Ipplepen Athletic battled through the semi-finals of the Devon Premier Cup with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Budleigh Salterton on Saturday.

After falling behind to a goal from Budleigh’s top scorer Jack Hocking, Ipplepen recovered to level through Elliott Simson on the hour and it was then all about goalkeeper Toby Bennett, who produced a superb penalty save to secure progress to the last four.

Waldon Athletic had a hugely difficult challenge at North Molton from the league above and, despite a brave effort, the Torbay side went down to a 4-1 defeat, Cole Harford scoring the Waldon consolation.

In the Premier Division of the South Devon League, Morley Rangers took advantage of Ilsington Villa’s weekend break to move within a point of the leaders. Corbin Mackin (2), J-Jay Honeywill and Dalton Brammer scored the goals for Morley in a 4-0 win at Buckfastleigh Rangers.

Kingsteignton, in third, trounced Beesands 5-1, thanks to strikes from Jason Jones (2), Alex Harding, Tom Reeves and Ryan Tovagliari.

However, arguably the best result in South Devon came at Wall Park, where Brixham 2nds recorded their first points of the season with a fantastic 3-0 win over East Allington, Aidan Bovey, Luke Ducker and Andrew Hawkins hitting the net for the Fishermen.
