Gymnasts on the podium
Torbay Olympic Gymnastics Club
Torbay Olympic Gymnastics Club, based in Barton Hill Way, Torquay, recently held their annual club competition for gymnasts from their recreational classes.
The competition was held over two days, with the young gymnasts taking part in various age groups.
Parents, siblings and grandparents were all invited to come along and support the gymnasts at an event that has been running for over 25 years.
There were a number of parents watching, who had competed themselves when they were their child’s age.
The gymnasts took part in various disciplines and after a warm-up, showed off their skills on the floor, vault and beam or parallel bars, and pommel/bucket work.
Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded on each apparatus and age group and all gymnasts were given a nice participation medal.
Mark Pocock, head coach at Torbay Olympic Gymnastics Club, said afterwards: “It was great to see so many of our recreational gymnasts taking part in the competition.
“We had a record number of over 280 entrants for this year’s competition, which was the total size of the club at the first competition.”
2023 has been a special year for Torbay Olympic Gymnastics Club as it recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. It staged an anniversary barbecue, a fun afternoon with inflatable tracks, a bouncy castle, face painting and hair braiding, although a free event the proceeds managed to raise enough to buy two benches for outside in the spring.
Torbay Olympic Gymnastics Club provides lots of classes for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers, school-age children, special needs, as well as adults.
For those who enjoy trampoline then classes are held for various ages as well as Freeg/Freestyle gymnastics sessions.
