Torbay Table Tennis
While this week saw no scheduled league matches in the South Devon and Torbay Table Tennis League, the new year still kicked off with several rearranged matches.
In the first division, NA Batmen returned to the top of the table with a whitewash victory over clubmates NA Condors.
Rory Harries, Dennis and Shaun Gibbs are all returning after the Christmas break in fine form.
NA Buzzards kept up their interest towards the top of the table with an 8-2 victory at Halwell A.
Herbie Sage and Kevin Nicholls were unbeaten for the Buzzards.
Halwell A, struggling at the foot of the table, didn’t fare any better at Newton Abbot where they went down 9-1 to NA Parrots, where Dan Webster-Hall notched up a maximum for the Parrots.
An unfortunate injury to Halwell’s Rod Sugden while ahead in his final set didn’t help as Halwell had to concede that set and the final doubles.
Division Two leaders, Brixham Trawlers, increased their lead at the top of the table to nine points with a 7-3 victory at Torbay Academy 3, a match featuring Martin Sharp with an excellent maximum for the Trawlers.
Torbay Academy 5, with seven wins out of seven, head the fourth division table following a narrow 6-4 victory at Torre over the Gladiators.
Torbay Academy 6 were also narrow winners as they defeated Brixham Seals 6-4 thanks to a Graham Maynard maximum.
NA Ospreys kept in touch with the leaders with a 9-1 victory over clubmates NA Vultures, Ken Ramsden and Rob Ferguson with maximums for the Ospreys.
