Gymnasts celebrate fantastic competition results
South Devon School of Gymnastics have started the second half of the competition year in style with some fantastic results from their squad and competitive gymnasts. At the Penryn Open in September in the zinc category, Lyla Fitzgerald and Georgina Wilde

South Devon School of Gymnastics have started the second half of the competition year in style with some fantastic results from their squad and competitive gymnasts.

At the Penryn Open in September in the zinc category, Lyla Fitzgerald and Georgina Wilde were crowned overall champions in their age groups, Zi Wei Wang placed second overall and Ivy Taylor third overall.

In the copper category, Abigail Hobson and Emily Wells won silver and Maddie Maddock and Freya Gill won the bronze in the all-around competition.

Lilly Stone was third overall in the bronze section and Willow-Mae Calland placed second at level four.

Including apparatus medals, the club’s gymnasts took home an incredible 46 medals.

Some of the girls then competed at the Southwest of England Regional Championships on October 16.

Lilly Stone and Abi Yates competed in a large field of gymnasts to place sixth and seventh overall in the bronze competition.

In the elite section, Willow-Mae Calland had a fabulous competition which saw her win silver on vault, gold on bars, beam and floor and be crowned the overall South West level four champion.

Abi Martin competed in the Junior FIG competition, and she won bronze on floor, gold on vault, bars and beam and was also crowned South West champion.

Finally at the Devon Zinc and Titanium teams on October 23, the club’s under-11 zinc gymnasts had a great day.

Ivy Taylor was crowned overall county champion, Holly Summers won the silver medal overall and Faith Parish was placed sixth.

The club’s young under-nine zinc team of Zi Wei Wang, Felicity Leeds, Rosa Wells and Lyla Fitzgerald picked up the bronze medal in the team event, individually placed fifth overall and Lyla Fitzgerald took home the silver medal.

Finally, the club’s under-nine Titanium team of Soraya Small, Freya Booth, Lexie Drake, Izzy Baker and Lucy Blakemore had a fantastic competition and were crowned Devon County team champions.

Individually, Lexie was fifth, Lucy third and Izzy first overall.
