After 12 years at the centre of Marina life, the family trio of Adele Farrell, Michele Farrell and Gayle Bettesworth have sold the fabulous Below Decks, Torquay.
Confirmed by Bettesworth Property Agents, the very popular harbourside Café Bar / Restaurant was taken on as a closed business in March 2009 by the entrepreneurial team, who also own The Galley on Torquay Harbour and Wellswood Post Office; having previously run Oddicombe Beach Café as well as hotels and retail businesses.
The new owners are Kevin and Julie Shadbolt and their son Gregory. The family come with plenty of hospitality experience.
Kevin & Julie own and run The ‘AA 5 Star’ Albaston Boutique B&B in Torquay – famously winning on Channel 4’s ‘Four in a Bed’ show in 2015.
Gregory comes to Torquay from his role as Executive Assistant to the General Manager at The Park Plaza London Riverbank Hotel.
Adele Farrell said: “We would like to thank all our wonderful customers, who have become such friends over the years, for all your support. Also, our ‘family’ of staff, past and present – we have had a wonderful 12 years. We are so grateful to you all and we leave very proud.
“We now wish Kevin, Julie and Greg every success. We know that they will go from strength to strength with the support of a fantastic team of Supervisors, Chefs, Staff and the best clientele any business could hope for.”
Kevin Shadbolt added: “We are tremendously excited to have bought Below Decks. We have been customers and big fans for many years and we look forward to making sure that all our customers enjoy this superb venue as much as we have.
Paul Bettesworth, who handled the sale, commented: “I have no doubt that Kevin, Julie & Greg will build on the already strong business and I would like to wish them all the very best.
"My thanks also to Ashley Bevans of Wollens and Cheryl Baxter of Boyce Hatton, both of whom have worked tirelessly on the complicated transaction.”
