The Rivera Box Cup 2021 will be held on August 14 and 15 at the Acorn youth centre, Barton Downs, Torquay, hosted by Torbay Amateur Boxing Club.

This event was a huge success in 2019, with clubs from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales attending.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, last year's event was unfortunately unable to go ahead but it is now back, bigger and better, with the Rivera Box Cup 2021.

Once again, Torbay Amateur Boxing Club have been inundated with entries from boxing clubs from all over the UK.

There is a huge amount of weight categories ranging from 46kg to over 91kg - junior, males and females, senior males and females. This tournament is open class and has attracted the best boxers from the four nations.

Once again, there will be belts awarded for the best female of the tournament, best male boxer of the tournament, best international boxer, best outstanding boxer.

The award of the whole tournament that all the clubs would like to win is the trophy for the club with the most gold medals, which was won by Torbay ABC in 2019.

Torbay ABC boxers are now working hard in the gym to try and at least equal 2019's haul of medals.

A club spokesman said: "They are all extremely excited to be back boxing and especially looking forward to this prestigious event.

"This tournament definitely promotes Torbay, due to the influx of people that are attending from outside of the Bay; boxers, coaches, parents and guardians etc.

"Many clubs have already booked their accommodation in B&Bs and hotels throughout the Bay, making this a massive boost to Torbay's economy.

"This tournament would not be able to take place if it were not for the dedicated volunteers putting in numerous hours of work to make sure that this event runs smoothly; in particular club manager Michael Reardon and club secretary Chris Chillcott.

"We are hoping that all the local community will come and support this excellent event, put on by a local club for the people of Torbay and the whole sporting community."
