Torbay Council’s fostering events showcase support and perks for carers, including free Paignton Zoo passes, Torquay United tickets, and beach hut access
People interested in becoming foster carers are being invited to attend a series of informal information events across Torbay and South Devon this month.
Torbay Council’s Fostering team will be hosting coffee mornings and drop-in sessions where prospective carers can meet staff, ask questions and learn more about what fostering involves.
The February events will take place from 11am to 1pm on:
Wednesday 18 February – Totnes Hospital, Coronation Road, Totnes
Saturday 21 February – Brixham Library, Market Street, Brixham
Wednesday 25 February – Dartmouth Medical Practice and Wellbeing Centre, Wessex Way, Dartmouth
Saturday 28 February – Acorn Youth Community and Sports Centre, Lummaton Cross, Torquay
In addition, online information sessions will be held via Teams by Fostering South West, the regional fostering hub, on Monday 23 February from 1pm to 2pm and again from 7pm to 8.30pm.
The council says it is particularly looking for short breaks foster carers in Torbay, as well as people able to offer respite or stay-over fostering, although all types of foster carers are needed.
Those who foster with Torbay Council are offered extensive support and training, a dedicated social worker, mentoring from an experienced foster carer and access to a support phone line.
Carers can also join a local Foster Carers Forum and take part in family events throughout the year, including a summer barbecue, Christmas party and the Train of Lights.
Additional benefits include free beach hut access and free passes to Paignton Zoo, as well as complimentary tickets to home games at Torquay United.
Anyone unable to attend an event but interested in fostering can contact the council’s Fostering service on 01803 207845, email fostering@torbay.gov.uk or complete an enquiry form via the council’s website.
