An investigation has been launched following the deaths of a woman in Torquay and a man in Hampshire.

Emergency services were called just before 4pm on Saturday 31 January after concerns were raised for a woman at a property on Shirburn Road in Torquay.

The woman, aged in her 70s, was found deceased inside the address. Her death is being treated as unexplained.

Police in Devon and Cornwall were alerted by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, who had attended a property in Waterside, Hythe, where a man in his 40s was also found deceased. His death is not believed to be suspicious.

Officers believe the man and woman were known to each other.

An investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding both deaths. Scene guards remain in place at both addresses while enquiries continue.

Next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth said: “This is a very sad incident and we are supporting the next-of-kin of those who have died.

“We continue to work closely with our colleagues from Hampshire as we investigate this matter.

“Officers are carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what has happened and cordons are in place to allow for a thorough investigation of both addresses.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area and we encourage anyone to speak with officers if they have any concerns.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police online or by calling 101, quoting log number 558 of 31 January.
