Local woman pronounced dead after body found in sea off Berry Head

Police say the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her death is not being treated as suspicious

A woman’s body has been recovered from the water at Berry Head in Brixham, Devon.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they were called at around 13:30 GMT on Monday, 5 January following reports of a body in the water off the coastal headland.

Emergency services attended, including a Coastguard rescue helicopter seen in the area on Monday afternoon, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mirror reported that the woman was in her 50s. Police later confirmed she was from the local area and that her next of kin have been informed.

Officers said the death is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner.

No further details have been released.
