A new International Food Market has officially opened on Market Street.
The shop, at 14 Market Street, welcomed customers for the first time on Friday 28 November. It occupies a building with a long local history: for 10 years until 2022 it was home to Ark Pet Shop, and before that it was known as Rosebys, selling furniture.
The sizeable former retail premises was assumably bought at auction, with the owners making a significant investment in its refurbishment.

Inside, the new market places a strong emphasis on European produce. Shelves are stocked with a wide range of meats, cheeses, fruit and vegetables, and alcohol, along with specialist items that are often difficult to find locally.
Early shoppers described online the selection as “impressive” and said the store “fills a real gap” in the town centre’s food offering.
The shop is open long hours throughout the week:
Monday–Saturday: 8am–10pm
Sunday: 9am–8pm
The arrival of the market has been warmly received, with shoppers welcoming more choice on a high street that has seen a number of closures in recent years.
