Get ready for a day of family fun, traditional crafts, and delicious treats at the annual Apple Pie Fair, taking place on September 7 from noon until 5PM at Jubilee Meadow, Marldon. The fair, held on the first Saturday of September each year, celebrates the memory of local farmer George Hill, who started the tradition in 1888 by baking an enormous apple pie for the village using his windfall apples.
The festivities begin with a small procession led by the Apple Pie Prince and his attendants, transporting an apple pie-filled cart from the church to Jubilee Meadow. Visitors can enjoy traditional crafts such as weaving, bee keeping, Morris dancers, and a shanty band. There will also be plenty of apple-based games, apple juicing, and peeling activities.
In the main arena, the annual fun dog show will be a highlight, along with an abundance of local stalls offering crafts, local food, and beers to sample. Music, dancing, face painting, and much more await attendees.
For updates and to share your own photos from past years, visit the Marldon Apple Pie Facebook page. Budding bakers can also find details on how to enter the apple pie competition.
Join us in celebrating this cherished tradition. See you on the day!
