A new TV-style Repair Shop is being planned for Torquay.
Torquay Community Interest Company Turning Heads is looking to develop a repair shop from its new Skills Centre in Lime Avenue.
The plan is to provide a weekly drop-in service every Thursday from 6pm until 8pm where anyone can bring household items that are broken in to be fixed – reducing landfill and helping people save during these times where everybody is needing to save the pennies.
Alan Tilley, from Turning Heads, says: "Repair shops are all over the country and serve to bring communities together, tap into skills that people have and might not use anymore and help change our throw away culture to one that fixes things and reuses!
"To set this up we have been given funding from Sanctuary Housing to purchase tools, equipment and provide expenses for volunteers which is an amazing boost.
"We just need the volunteers. We need people who have experience and expertise in repairing things - that could be engineers, potters, clothworkers, carpenters etc. It can be people of any age who have a few hours spare in the week to help create something amazing in the community."
A meeting is being held on Thursday August 22 (7pm) for anyone interested in being involved in this exciting community project.
Alan says: "If you have a skill to offer or would just like to be on the management team, then please come along and lend your support."
