South Devon School of Gymnastics’ head coach Rachel Wignall has been selected as one of 12 coaches to be part of the Women’s Artistic 2022 Coach Development Programme.

This is the first in a series of new programmes being established to help develop the elite coaches of the future who have the potential to coach gymnasts competing at the highest level.

There will be specific focus on their development in the ‘coaching process’.

Alongside expertise from the world of gymnastics and other high-performance environments, the programme will cover a range of subjects targeted at developing the skills required to support high-performance gymnasts working towards the highest level of competition.

It will be delivered through online workshops, face-to-face seminars, attendance at international events and individual mentoring support.

British gymnastics said: ” it is important that we continue to invest in the next generation to give them the tools to develop and provide the very best support to high-performance gymnasts.

“The coaches selected for the programme have an opportunity to progress, collaborate and learn alongside their peers, while building the future of coaching in our sport in the UK.

“We are excited to welcome the first 12 coaches to join the programme and look forward to beginning that journey alongside them.”

As part of the programme, coaches will have the opportunity to attend both the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the Artistic World Championships in Liverpool in 2022, to provide unique development and learning opportunities.
