If you are a regular reader, you may have come across our articles and seen some of the projects we are involved in.

Each builder across the Bay works in a different way and is involved in various projects, but our collective goal is to help connect people and ease isolation in whatever way works best for the individuals involved.

Here in the Willows, many people meet up in the Willow Tree Pub. There are Coffee Mornings, carvery get-togethers, Scrabble clubs, social groups, and even a Church that all meet in the pub.

If none of those options appeal, then the nearby community centre offers sessions for young people, exercise classes for older people, history and reminiscence groups, and many other activities.

The local churches host flower arranging, wellbeing drop-in coffee mornings, and craft activities, as well as toddler groups, bereavement and loss support groups, and other events. A few people are starting to get together to go for a walk around the Willows, and there is a photography group that explores nearby beauty spots.

As a Community Builder I hope to be able to introduce you to a group of people will similar interests to you and with that in mind I am currently looking for people who might be interested in an evening book club based somewhere in the Willows, for people who just want to get out of the house and meet new people, for young women with mental health issues that would like to meet other young women in similar situations.

Maybe there is something you have a particular interest in, and you would like to meet other people who share your interest.

We all do better when we share our lives with others, but sometimes knowing where to meet new people can be really hard. The thought of walking into somewhere alone is really scary. Your local community builder can help you with this.

My name is Beth and I am the Community Builder for the Willows. I can be contacted on 07548704876 or bethupham@torbaycdt.org.uk. I also often work at the Willow Tree Pub, and one of the staff members there can point you in my direction.

If you don’t live in the Willows, information about how to contact your Community Builder and find out what is happening in your local area can be found at www.torbaycommunities.com.
