As a relative newcomer to the Bay, I have been amazed by how quickly I felt at home here and how easy it was to get involved with my local community.
No matter what you are interested in, Torbay has something for everyone. If you like the sea, there are beaches and groups that meet on them to swim, walk or meditate. If you prefer the countryside, then Dartmoor is a short drive away.
For those that like animals, we have a zoo and farms. If you want to know more about the local area there are history clubs, libraries and a museum. If you are interested in faith and spirituality, there are various churches, mosques and spiritual centres.
If you are crafty, then there are a variety of different groups and workshops that you can attend. If music is your thing, we have open mic nights and various pubs with live music. Into food? Then there are many restaurants and cafes, meaning We have music festivals, airshows and pirate festivals.
You get the picture; if you are interested in something, Torbay has a club or group for it.
But how do I access these groups and clubs I hear you ask. And what happens if I get anxious about attending on my own.
Well, that is where your friendly Community Builder comes in. The job of a community builder is to assist in bringing communities together and one of our roles is to help those who are struggling to get out and meet other people to do so. So, if you would like to meet up with other people who share your hobbies and interests then we can help.
My name is Beth and I am the Community Builder based in the Willows, but there are Community Builders in every area in Torbay. If you read these articles regularly, then you will
probably know who yours is. If not, you can find out here. https://www.torbaycommunities.
If you live in the Willows and would like to meet up with me, then I can be found in the Willow Tree Pub on Monday afternoons, or you can contact me either by email bethupham@tobaycdt.org.uk or call or text me 07548704876
