What a difference 60 or so years make.

Wind the clock forward to 2025 and the look has changed somewhat.
A major regeneration project has transformed The Strand 'public realm' into a Piazza-style promenade area with a new road layout, pavements and landscape. The palm trees and clock tower remain but not sure about the 'warm' spring sunshine.
The clocktower was a landmark location for a special event at the weekend when a large crowd gathered close by to watch as a statue of Dame Agatha Christie was unveiled by civic dignitaries and Elisabeth Hadley, the Brixham-based artist behind the bronze tribute to Torbay's most famous daughter.
The next piece of the regeneration work, made possible with £22million Torquay Town Deal funding from the government, will be the demolition of the former Debenhams department store just across the road.
A luxury four star may take its place and the Queen of Crime will be there on her new bench with favourite pet dog Peter by her side watching it all unfold.
