Torquay’s harbourside will be the centre of Easter celebrations this year, with two days of free family-friendly activities marking the official opening of the newly redeveloped public realm space.
Torbay Council is inviting residents and visitors to join the festivities on Sunday, April 20, and Monday, April 21, from 11am to 3pm. The event will feature live music, creative workshops, street performances, and interactive activities designed to connect people to the regenerated area.
Event highlights include:
The harbourside public realm scheme represents the first major town centre transformation in over a decade. It has incorporated additional seating, feature lighting, cycle racks, and landscaped areas. The new design aims to enhance the historic waterfront and create a modern and welcoming space for residents and visitors.
Torbay Council has commissioned the event, while Tonic Creatives are delivering it.
Cllr Chris Lewis, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Place Development and Economic Growth at Torbay Council, said: “Through Town Deal funding, we have successfully delivered a high-quality public space that complements the unique character of Torquay’s harbourside. This event will provide an opportunity for the community to come together and experience the enhanced space while enjoying engaging activities.”
The harbourside will also host the unveiling of the Strand’s new Agatha Christie statue on Saturday, April 12. This event will feature live performances, a family-friendly ‘whodunit’ mystery trail, and guided literary walks.
As part of the tribute, Torquay Library will host a printmaking workshop led by Double Elephant, where participants can create artwork inspired by Christie’s famous murder mysteries. Two sessions are available at 11am and 1pm. Tickets are £3 and can be booked online: https://www.iacf-uk.org/news/murder-whodunnit-at-torquay-library.
